Hi. So happy to find this place because I am stumped. i would appreciate any and all help! I picked up a 2003 Venice with 1700km from an acquaintance for 200 bucks, it was not running at the time(not used in 8 months). This is my first scooter and i am not mechanically inclined..at all! on the advice of a motorcycle mechanic pal(and with his supervision!), i cleaned the carb, drained the gas(filled with water from being left outside i guess), checked for spark(good), replaced the battery. i believe thats all. scooter ran great. went around the block numerous times, good power, no problems. i let the scooter sit for a couple days with the battery plugged in...then...
1) battery was dead, plug in charger apparently didnt work.(i remedied this by using a 12v car battery charger
2)when the battery was dead, the kickstart function did not work..is this right? i would have figured the point of having the kickstart is to be a backup in case the electric start doesnt work. once the battery was charged it kickstarted like a deam
3) found out the electric start button(right next to the throttle) did not function, can only electric start from my keychain remote button
4)upon charging the battery i was psyched...then while turning the ignition key to on i think i screwed something up. i guess the ignition column broke or is somehow loose internally...the key goes around 360 degrees now..since this has happened the scooter will start..however, once the gas is applied it cuts out. i can only guess that this has something to do with my ignition key screw up
if this is an ignition problem, what can i do? is there any way to bypass the whole key and ignition thing? im not worried about this thing getting stolen, would love to just walk up to it with no key and start the thing..or do i have to somehow replace the ignition module?...or is this problem completely unrelated to the ignition?...if anyone has any insight i would appreciate it
