Anyone here ever considered racing a scooter on the track?
If you have, which model would you use and why?

People do it all the time, we have a big scooter race at Summit Point VW every year, everything from vintage Vespa's to Super 9's.

Cool Glad to see its out there for you folks. I couldn't find it available through Northwest Mini Road Racing so I'll have to dig a little deeper. Thanks

Joey, thanks for that link. I'm by the Pittsburgh Int'l Airport so the Beaver Race track mentioned in your link is less than 30 minutes from me. I'll definately look into that... definately want to watch. I may even look into racing my Vino as a novice!
Susan, thanks for the pics link. They look like race pics from a motorcycle magazine! On motorcycles they call it peg-scraping. Would it be floorboard scraping on a scoot?
Anybody know how fast the 50cc scoots go in these races?

Anybody know how fast the 50cc scoots go in these races? In one of the photos it almost looks like "knee scraping" :)
Looks as though most of the scoots that race are older Vespas & Lambrettas. I saw one or two modern scooters.
Not sure of the speed--I am guessing ~80 mph, but need to do more research. Anyone else know?

I commented about this one before..... unless you have RADICAL porting done, you should get more than 20 hrs..... (unless your tuning is off)

You also have to think...
The example that provo has about the 20 hr motor... is a true RACE only set up....
This is using the TOP end parts... and running the motor over 13,000 RPM's the whole time...
Most of our motors aren't getting over 12,000 let alone anywhere near the rpm's that eat a motor like that... heck you also notice the 25,000 rpm ignition set up...
even with complete MHR set up... unless your tuned for a "RACE" only set up you should get well more than 20 hours...

with just "top end race parts" 20 hours is about right for the STOCK crank......

well...
I also think that everyone reads that statement wrong... it doesn't say that the CRANK needs to be replaced every 20 hours...
it says the motor... meaning IMO the cylinder...
it does say the cranks needs to be replaced a 5 hour job.... <--- meaning if has to be done... Bu tnot every time...
That's just how I read it....
