View Full Version : Koso tach malfunction?

I haven't ran my zip in a few weeks, and after redoing my intake setup I've noticed my koso tach isn't showing the right rpms anymore! It just jumps between random low numbers like 460 to 650 to 1500, 2300, etc.. but won't show my actual rpm.

I've tried re-wrapping the wire around the plug cable, but still same thing.

Any ideas?

Check the battery. It might be getting low.

Which one do you have str8? The blue-backlight one or the non-backlight one? Mine goes through batteries pretty quick too.

the backlit one.

Ahh, then you have it hooked up with the 3rd power wire right? If so the ones we have doesn't have that 3rd power wire. They run off pure watch batteries. lol

your backlight is off the battery? how strange. mine doesnt backlight any more bc the LED shorted but it was powered by the scooter battery none the less.

No ours doesnt have a backlight at all. That's the difference. Your's is powered off of the scooter's battery and ours has a self contained battery.

Hmm, dunno. I wonder if the Koso engineers felt like putting more R&D into the more expensive backlight one... lol

Dunno what it is, I just know that I go for about 2-3 months on a battery and I gotta replace it. In the winter I just straight take it out because it just dies sitting there even not turning it on. Maybe different storage conditions like with temperature kill it. But 2 years vs 2 months seems extreme.

Maybe it's the ground wire? The engine runs fine?

I had the same problem with the temp. reading.....................it started jumping around all over the place........................got rid of the sensor that hooks onto the plug, and went with the one that screws into the jug........problem solved. At any rate, your problem might be in the wiring for your RPMs...............

well thing is I haven't touched the wiring for either sensor, and i'm already using the screw in temp sensor which is still working.

i dont think there is a ground wire.

As of now, tach is still not working! And now, when I just want to monitor temp, it switches back to rpms periodically!!! _-_-_-

I've tried a new battery and rewired the rpm plug wire several times with no better results.. damn this thing is just frustrating now. ***potty m
